Background

Louise was elected as Secretary of ISSHP in 2014. Louise is Executive Pro Vice Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Liverpool; a founding Director of the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded Irish Centre for Fetal and Neonatal Translational Research (INFANT www.infantcentre.ie) and was until December 2017 Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Cork University Maternity Hospital where I worked as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from 2006-2018. She has authored over 200 original articles, reviews and book chapters and has developed the first national guidelines in Ireland for the management of hypertension in pregnancy and severe pre-eclampsia. Louise has a career long clinical and research interest in uteroplacental insufficiency.

Research Interests:

Louise has pioneered the exploitation of metabolomic technology for patient benefit and has discovered and validated biomarkers for the prediction of preeclampsia. This work, which has received numerous international prizes and awards, has been licensed to a successful spin-out company and is now in phase IIa clinical trials funded by a €6 million FP7 award coordinated by Louise.
